CENTRALIAN ADVOCATE, ALICE SPRINGS
August 2015 - November 2018
I'd been collaborating with the Advocate team, writing for them since June 2015, to help diversify my own content at the radio station, when it was suddenly apparent there was a position for me at the paper.
Having never worked in newspapers before I was initially daunted by the prospect, but the skillset required is pretty similar to broadcast journalism and the product arguably suits me better.
My rounds include crime, tourism and education, but I especially enjoy writing longer features and the opportunity to meet all sorts of interesting people, and explore every nook and crannie of my town is quite unbelievable. I've had a handful of front page exclusives and my work is often used by the NT News and other News Corp titles.

8HA and sun 969, alice springs
February 2014 - September 2015
I travelled to Alice Springs as a backpacker in October 2013 and fell in love with the town's beautiful surrounding landscape, and community-spirited people. After a couple of weeks I had to move on because I'd made prior commitments, but I couldn't escape a nagging sense of homesickness for Central Australia. So I wrote to a few people involved with broadcasting in the area, and my wonderful now-employers wrote back saying they were willing to take a chance on me. I'm the first journalist 8HA and Sun 969 have had in a couple of decades, and I've re-discovered my love for the medium of radio. I am the sole newsgatherer, editor, and reader of multiple bulletins each weekday, as well as the creator of features and various other interviews. I also present two shows at the weekend (8HA 0600-0800) and co-host the Sunday Show with Nicky G on Sun 969.

AUSTRALIAN BROADCASTING CORPORATION - ABC NEWS 24
April 2013 - October 2013
I worked as a freelance Associate Producer for ABC News 24 for the six months that my working holiday visa allowed me to. The job involved building running orders of up to two hours at a time and putting them out from the 'control room'. But I also did general item producing, as well as shifts in the main ABC newsroom, producing content for evening programmes across the network.
The editing software that the ABC use is called Aurora, and I found it interesting to learn how to use it, along with seeing how differently iNews can be used across multiple newsrooms.

channel seven 'sunrise' - segment producer
April 2013 - October 2013
My first freelance role in Sydney was as a segment producer for Channel Seven's 'Sunrise' breakfast programme, which involved planning and producing content for the following morning's show. It was the first time I'd ever worked with sponsors, which was interesting. Certain companies pay to get their brand into segments which is a practice that is only just starting to creep into the UK.
I also set up live crosses to the USA and the UK which obviously involved dealing with differences in time zones, as well as the usual logistics associated with live television.

ITV Anglia - producer, reporter
October 2009 - January 2013
I joined ITV Anglia after completing the ITV News trainee scheme at ITV Yorkshire. My job title was Newsroom Journalist but this encompassed everything from planning, item producing, bulletin producing, assistant programme editing, weekend news editing, web management and reporting, often as a self-shooting and editing video journalist, working on the road. You can see some of my reports here. Many members of that incredible team remain close friends, and leaving a job has never been so heart-wrenching. However, I had one final chance (dictated by age and type of visa) to fulfil a lifelong ambition to live in Australia, so I took it.

ITV Yorkshire - itv news trainee
October 2008 - October 2009
I was one of 8 people to be picked from the hundreds who applied for the 08/09 ITV News Trainee Scheme. Once you're through, you get given a home region and mine was ITV Yorkshire based in Leeds. I had one of my own ideas on air within my first couple of months there and continued to report regularly throughout the year. At regular intervals the trainees would meet up to have training in scripting, editing, media law, camera work, live reporting, and programme-making. We also worked in other newsrooms including the national newsroom and GMTV.

BBC radio gloucestershire
December 2006 - September 2008
I had started volunteering for BBC Radio Gloucestershire alongside my degree in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Gloucestershire. I soon gained a freelance contract and continued to fill shifts at the station for the next two years. I worked as a studio producer, programme producer, live reporter, features reporter for programmes, and news journalist, including some bulletin reading. I worked during the floods of 2007 and as a result of the team's efforts we were invited to meet the BBC Director General, Mark Thomson,
